Coordinated Reservoir Management at river basin scale

The increasing energy demand in Vietnam has provoked the construction of a number of large hydropower dams during the last decades. In river basins with a favorable topography as e.g. in the central province Quang Nam, plenty of further reservoirs will be built to obtain the maximum hydropower production. However, the modification of the hydrological system leads to severe changes in downstream water supply and may impact floods and droughts. A careful management of reservoirs on river basin level is indispensable to be able to provide sufficient water for the downstream users and to improve flood management.
